Family moments in Whangamatā

Picture this — warm light, a beautiful afternoon at the beach, and a family of three soaking in this season of life together in Whangamatā. We often think we’ll always have time to capture these moments, but the truth is, they pass by in the blink of an eye.

As a Whangamatā family photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to meet families at so many different stages of their journey. This session was especially meaningful because they were my returning clients. Years ago, I photographed Zoe and Tobias as an engaged couple, and now here they were, documenting life with their little one. Time truly flies!

When people think about a beach photo session, they usually imagine sand dunes, ocean views, and golden sunsets. But one of my favourite things as a Whangamata family photographer is finding variety in a location. We wandered through greenery and tucked-away pathways while the afternoon sun was still bright. Those softer, quieter moments always add so much to a gallery.

As the light softened, we made our way back to the beach to catch the last golden glow of the day. The session became all about movement, play, and connection — little adventures in the sand, cuddles between mum and dad, and moments that unfolded naturally. And of course, I always make time for photos of just the parents too. Those memories matter just as much.
