It was one of the busiest long weekend on Waiheke with thousands arriving to enjoy the sunshine and what’s on offer. Alongside famous food and wines, stunning views and beach strolls, at least two people had one of the best days of their lives. Their wedding was set to be at Mudbrick Lodge followed by an exquisite reception at the well known Mudbrick Restaurant.
Jen & Mark planned their wedding at Mudbrick all the way from Melbourne. They did an amazing job creating the warmest atmosphere reflecting their story and connection.
Mark was getting ready at the lodge to oversee the final touches before the ceremony and allow for Jen’s beautiful arrival. No rush, no pre-wedding chaos, just what was really important – writing the vows. I must say, I can totally relate to the last minute effort!
Wedding at Mudbrick is not only a guarantee of exceptional service, stunning views, delicious food and wine, but also comfort. The Lodge will easily accommodate up to 6 guests meaning no hassle before or after the special day. Apart from the Lodge, there are 2 onsite cottages – Olive & Merlot.

Jen was getting ready offsite and chose a beautiful spot in Oneroa – Pacific Escape. It was a very relaxed atmosphere which made it perfect for candid and not rushed photographs.
Hair and makeup – Makeup Station
We thought we wouldn’t have enough time to pull this off, but regardless how busy the town was, this drive through in vintage Mini Ute was meant to happen!
All the guests are seated and waiting for Jen’s arrival. Silence. And then you can hear the engine of the Mini roaring through the vines of Mudbrick.
The ceremony was about to begin. If you scroll up a few photos, you will see an image of the rings together with Mini cuffs placed on the vinyl. This is original vinyl with a very special song that was played when Jen was walking down the aisle. It was Elvis Presley “Can’t Help Falling In Love”…
Together with Jen and Mark we planned the timeline pretty well. After the ceremony while the canapes were served, we completed all the small group photos. To make this process smooth and easy for everyone I recommend having a list of those photos ready beforehand. This way you won’t miss anyone.
One of the most important parts of the day was to include free time with the guests. Quite a few people attending travelled from afar so Jen & Mark wanted to enjoy their company. It gave me a good chance to capture many candid and unscripted moments.
When the guests started to move to the restaurant, we had a great time creating some photography magic of just Mark & Jen. Time, lighting and the whole atmosphere were perfect for a good variety of images.
If you are planning an autumn wedding at Mudbrick, I recommend to schedule your photos during the transition from the Lodge to the restaurant. It will save you lots of time on logistics and if the wether allows, will offer you a stunning light for dreamy photos.
The grand entrance as Husband & Wife was followed by cutting of the cake. This allowed to get this important part of the evening done straight away and focus on speeches. They were funny, wholesome and very genuine.
