Wedding at Mudbrick | Waiheke Island

Wedding at Mudbrick

A wedding at Mudbrick is always something special – but Jen and Mark’s autumn celebration was truly unforgettable. It happened on one of the busiest long weekends on Waiheke Island, with thousands arriving to soak up the sunshine, sip world-class wines, and enjoy the island’s beauty. Among the beach strolls, vineyard views, and bustling restaurants, two people had one of the best days of their lives.

Jen and Mark planned their wedding at Mudbrick all the way from Melbourne, creating a day filled with warmth, joy, and heartfelt moments that reflected their story and connection perfectly.

Mark spent the morning at Mudbrick Lodge, keeping an eye on the final touches before the ceremony and making sure everything was just right for Jen’s arrival. The atmosphere was calm, with no pre-wedding chaos – just meaningful moments, like writing vows at the very last minute (something I can completely relate to!).

One of the best things about a wedding at Mudbrick is the comfort and convenience. The Lodge can host up to six guests, making it perfect for family or close friends, and there are also two onsite cottages – Olive and Merlot – for extra accommodation.

Jen got ready offsite at a stunning Oneroa location – Pacific Escape. The setting was peaceful and unhurried, perfect for natural, candid photographs that truly captured the excitement and beauty of the morning.

Despite the long weekend crowds, we made time for a drive through Oneroa in a vintage Mini Ute. It was such a fun, personal touch – and the perfect lead-up to the ceremony.

Guests were seated, waiting for Jen’s grand entrance. Then, the sound of the Mini’s engine signalled her arrival – a moment that made everyone smile. When Jen walked down the aisle to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love, it felt like something out of a movie.

After the ceremony, while canapés were served, we moved quickly through the small group photos (having a list ready is a huge time-saver!). Jen and Mark made sure to have plenty of free time with their guests, many of whom had travelled from overseas.

Before heading to the reception, we spent a little time capturing portraits among the gardens and at the Lodge. The timing, light, and atmosphere were perfect – a photographer’s dream. If you’re planning an autumn wedding at Mudbrick, I recommend scheduling couple portraits during the transition from the Lodge to the restaurant. It’s efficient, and if the weather plays along, you’ll be rewarded with the most magical light.

The evening began with a grand entrance as husband and wife, followed immediately by cutting the cake. This meant the rest of the night could be dedicated to speeches, laughter, and celebrating with loved ones. The Mudbrick team delivered their signature combination of exceptional service, delicious food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
